Opening of the exhibition at KV NEUHAUSEN
on September 28, 2024, from 2pm
Duration: September 29 – November 17, 2024

‘Desertification’ is a term used in ecology to describe the process of desertification. Desertification or desertification is sometimes caused by natural factors, but is mostly man-made – caused by climate change, deforestation, overgrazing, poverty, political instability, war, unsustainable irrigation methods or a combination of these factors. Together with rising sea levels, heat waves and an increase in floods and storms, desertification is one of the most serious changes on our planet. These changes often go hand in hand with global socio-political brutalisation. Nevertheless, these drastic effects also offer the opportunity for a solidarity-based rethink and the creation of something new. Deserts around the world, although different in nature, share remarkable social characteristics: They are wastelands, habitats and serve as a site-specific basis for simulations of future planetary settlements.

They are places of crisis, of artistic subversion, but also of utopian social projects. Deserts are culturally vibrant places that know neither beginning nor end.
The exhibition project is based on the principle of dialogue and examines the phenomenon of ‘desertification’, taking into account ecological, economic and socio-psychological aspects.
