Migration Line, 2018/ 2019
Drawing to music, Graphite and Fineliner, 120 x 175 cm
Created during a residency in Brno, CZ, November 2018.
In this drawing, the red line (the migration route of the Rom*nja, source: Museum of Roma Culture, Muzeum romské kultury, Brno, CZ) was first drawn on the paper, which is composed of 18 individual pieces of paper (1). On the music (five different pieces, recorded in the museum, 12:12 minutes long in total) a first layer has been drawn on with graphite (2). The entire drawing was then divided into individual sheets and reassembled (3) in order make a drawing to the same music again, which was slowed down and stretched (4). The entire drawing was cut up again and reassembled in such a way that the red migration line can be seen again in its original form. The recorded sound (produced by the graphite pencil gliding across the paper) was transformed into a new composition in the drawing Migration Line, which was incorporated.
