Exhibition by Artist Members 2025 /
From August 23 to September 21, 2025
My piece is about Alice Widensohler. In 1946, she became the first woman to head the Württembergischer Kunstverein as managing director and curator, a position she held until 1965.
The exhibited work with the title
Special Feature:
Alice Luise Maria Widensohler – A Life, 2025
An ongoing project
consists of three parts
1 A strip of paper listing the exhibitions she has shown.
2 Another strip of paper with a portrait of Alice Widensohler behind it, a wooden frame attached to the portrait, and another handwritten note about the artist Maxim Köhler, which was transferred to the lower part of the strip of paper. However, it is not certain that this handwritten note actually originated from her. She exhibited the artist’s work at the Württembergischer Kunstverein in 1955, and the document was found in a catalog in the WKV archives.
3 All entries on the passport application form are transcribed in Sütterlin script on the glass pane. The stamp on the paper indicates the year August 30, 1923.
4 A passport photo of Alice Widensohler.
After the exhibition, the work will be added to the archive of artist Barbara Karsch-Chaïeb and will be constantly updated with new information.
With thanks to the
State Archives of Baden-Württemberg / State Archives Ludwigsburg / File F 215 Bü 57 – Passport file Alice Widensohler and the Württembergischer Kunstverein for the archive material.
